Limiting Costs on Post Secondary Education in Canada

1. Should the government do something about this rising issue?
2. -Every year post secondary education continues to get more expensive
3. -Early 1990s-2013 national average for tuition tripled
4. -Canada: 6th highest average for undergrad tuition of all OECD countries
5. How much is post secondary in Canada?
6. -Anywhere from $2500-$6500 (according to Cdn govt) not including any other expenses other than possible program costs
7. -2015: Avg of $16,600 per year (more than $66,000 for regular 4 year program
8. -Canada has one of top immigration rates in the world. Many students from abroad come to Canadian schools to study.
9. 1976 International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights
10. -1976 Canada signed a legally binding international treaty to abolish education fees
11. Clause 2c: "Higher education shall be made equally accessible to all, on the basis of capacity, by every appropriate means, and in particular by the progressive introduction of free education."
12. -Contracting parties committed themselves to the "progressive introduction free education" at post secondary level and with the promise that 'Higher education shall be made equally accessible to all."
13. -Canada is financially stable
14. Tax dollars should be invested in students now - students do not worry about large debt and stress right out of post secondary
15. Why should Canadians and the government make the change?
16. The young generation should be promoted because they are the future of Canada
17. That investment would be repayed through taxes once the graduates enter the workforce.
