How I define teaching and learning in the 21st Century

1. To teach means to facilitate learning for a variety of learners in a variety of settings.
2. To teach means to understand and know your student(s) in such a way that you can adapt curriculum or methods to meet that student's individual needs.
3. Teaching is rewarding. To see the "lights go on" never gets old.
4. Teaching is a lifestyle. At some point, everyone is a teacher
5. Teaching is demanding. You have to be prepared to teach. You need to "know your stuff".
6. Teaching should be multi-sensory, using as many senses as possible (sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste.)
7. Teaching is an attitude, being open to new ways of teaching.
8. Teaching takes time.
9. Teaching requires knowledge about technology that will enhance the learning of your students.
10. Learning is life long. Old and new dogs have the capacity to learn new tricks.
11. Learning can be fun. Sometimes learning new things is hard.
12. Learning requires participation. And, the more you participate, the more you learn.
13. All students can learn.
14. Learning is an attitude, being open to new ideas and ways to doing things.
15. Learning takes time.
