1. Process and teacher roles
1.1. Determine objectives, purpose, and method of assessment.
1.2. Design engaging and relevant assessments. There should be multiple means for assessing.
1.3. Record student understanding throughout the process.
1.4. Evaluate results
1.5. Communicate progress and results with students, parents, co-teachers, and administration
1.6. Reflect on process and look for areas of success and areas for improvement
2. Types of Assessment
2.1. Summative: Should clearly demonstrate students' ability and knowledge of the given subject. Ties-in to central idea and encompasses many elements of the unit.
2.2. Formative: Natural part of the learning process. Demonstrates prior knowledge, acquired knowledge, and the direction future lessons should go. Gives regular feedback to students and teacher.
3. Recording
3.1. Tools: Rubrics, exemplars, checklists, anecdotal records, and continuums.
3.2. Strategies: Observations, performance assessments, process-focused assessments, selected responses, and open-ended tasks.
