1. Inciting incident: Student comes forward with allegation.  After hearing a speaker on sexual assault a student comes forward.  Recently, she was assaulted by fellow student at a party at another student's home on the weekend.  Provides a flat narrative with gaps in the story.

1.1. School immediately contacts the police to conform with mandatory reporting obligations

1.1.1. State law specific.  Certain states you must do this.  Assume that you're not in a state: Student wants to be able to exercise some control over the process.  Student feels overwhelmed and out of control.  Feeling of betrayal.  Only wanted resources. Chilling effect on future reporting.

1.2. Head of school has a one on one conversation with the reporting student to get the information.  Gaps emerge in the story.

1.2.1. Student withdraws complaint.  Future litigation and press- victim wasn't treated well.  Sense of betrayal.  No follow up investigation.  Failing to report issues.  Deterrent effect on future reporting.

1.3. Head of School and school counselor.  Hears narrative, thanks student for coming forward, is supportive.  Offers resources and discusses process going forward and options.

1.3.1. Student feels comfortable.  Moving forward

1.3.1.1. Third incident: Admin group meets together to discuss the student's testimony and decides the next course of action.   Review behavioral records of accused student.  Confidentiality needs to be maintained.  Necessary reporting as needed.

1.3.1.1.1. Presentation to executive committee and/or Board Chair.  Very limited information.  Present steps going forward.  Maintain confidentiality.  Ask for questions or concerns.

1.4. School declines to investigate because the incident occurred off campus on the weekend and directs student to police.
