1. Arts and Education

1.1. Sumerians

1.1.1. They made buildings with arches, ramps, and columns.

1.1.2. They statues they made often were made of stone, they also always had very wide eyes

1.1.3. made containers shaped as cylinders.

1.1.4. Invented a form of writing called Cuneiform

1.1.5. they also created artifacts made of ivory

1.2. Shang/Zhou

1.2.1. They would use bones for some form of writing

1.2.2. They used Bronze for tools and weapons which left many artifacts behind

1.2.3. Made very large tombs for the dead

1.2.4. the zhou made a ton of art surrounding animals, they made bulls, dragons and much more.

1.2.5. the zhou were very skilled with clay, they could make containers for water, food, tools and much more.

2. Science

2.1. Sumerians

2.1.1. Created a form of writing called Cuneiform

2.1.2. Also created a form of math based on the number 60

2.1.3. the also made the wheel and the plow, which helped them very much with farming and such.

2.1.4. the Sumerians also were able to craft things made of bronze, from hoes to swords.

2.1.5. with the invention of the wheel, the sumerians were also able to create things like a cart

2.2. Shang/Zhou

2.2.1. Worked with bronze, but they didn't use it for weapons and tools.

2.2.2. They also created a working calculator that could solve complex math problems

2.2.3. The Zhou used iron for their tools and weapons, which gave them a huge advantage in battle and in the fields.

2.2.4. the zhou also had huge farms which brought a large amount of crops every harvest

2.2.5. the zhou were one of the first civilizations to have a form of currency.

3. Economy and Trade

3.1. Sumerians

3.1.1. Obtained many of their building materials through trade

3.1.2. They traded with people across southwest Asia and beyond

3.1.3. Men held Political power and made laws

3.1.4. Women would take care of the home and kids

3.1.5. Few upper class women received education

3.2. Shang/Zhou

3.2.1. Most people spent their time in fields tending crops

3.2.2. They build up tombs, palaces, and walls

3.2.3. They were one of the first to have and advanced civilization

3.2.4. They created one of the first systems of money

3.2.5. They used text and symbols as ways to represent objects or ideas, and later developed Chineese writing

4. Government&Leaders

4.1. Sumerians

4.1.1. Priests held a high status and governed the city

4.1.2. Chiefs began to rule as kings

4.1.3. The kings who served as God's chief representative, performed ceremonies to please God

4.1.4. City-States' kings formed dynasties, or rulers who successfully rule a part of land for a long period of time

4.1.5. The kings would live in a luxurious palace because of his role and social status

4.2. Shang/Zhou

4.2.1. Ruled by a strong monarchy

4.2.2. They appointed governors to rule distant parts of the kingdom to keep China in order

4.2.3. Shang kings were surrounded by a court, or wealthy nobles, to so respect for the king

4.2.4. In addition the king would have a large army for fighting opponents and preventing rebellions

4.2.5. The Zhou worried that China wouldn't accept them for conquering the Shang

5. Religion

5.1. Sumerians

5.1.1. they praised polytheism.

5.1.2. They believed gods controlled all natural forces.

5.1.3. They believed the gods protected all city-states.

5.1.4. Thought the gods were like humans and they could eat,fight,fall in love and get married.

5.1.5. Each god adhered to a set of rules of divine authority.

5.2. Shang/Zhou

5.2.1. Centered on ancestor worship.

5.2.2. They would ask their ancestors for advice using oracle bones.

5.2.3. Believed in afterlife and would burry people with their items they will need in their after life.

5.2.4. Would have ritual meals and they believed the steam would fed their ancestors souls.

5.2.5. Zhou Dynasty is famous for the beginnings of two major Chinese philosophies: Confucianism and Taoism.

6. Geography and Agricluture

6.1. Sumerians

6.1.1. If the River floods most crops would be destroyed, so they created Dikes to help control the flooding. Also used canals to help with carrying water.

6.1.2. Richest Soil was found between the two main Rivers.The Rivers are the Tigris and the Euphrates.

6.1.3. Often planted near Rivers. Mesopotammia in greek maens between the rivers which helped create the first Civilzation.

6.1.4. As early as 5,500 B.C people were farming in Southern Mesopotammia.

6.1.5. They had perfect land for farming, which lead to a conflict over the land

6.2. Shang/Zhou

6.2.1. The rivers flooded constantly

6.2.2. Zhou history lead to the development of politics

6.2.3. The beginning of the dynasty was also the beginning of the iron age

6.2.4. Near by states battled for dominance

6.2.5. They had an increase in food production and later an increase in population

7. Social Structure and Family life

7.1. Sumerians

7.1.1. Believed that men has a greater status than women.

7.1.2. Had big families because they thought a larger family meant more workers to work.

7.1.3. A persons social status was based on their occupation.

7.1.4. Division of labor was connected to the social classes.

7.1.5. Boys of wealthy families attend school, while girls are educated at home.

7.2. Shang/Zhou

7.2.1. Largely into agriculture. The food they farmed were rice, wheat, millet and corn.

7.2.2. Had a social hierarchy in their government.

7.2.3. Most people spent their time in the fields farming and harvesting crops.

7.2.4. They would perform rituals to rid of evil spirits.

7.2.5. Although bronze instruments were available, farmers still depended on stone and wood tools.
