1. One Direction is originally signed by Syco Records (also known as Syco music) but have a joint deal with Columbia.

1.1. Syco Records is a British record label funded by British music mogul Simon Cowell. Syco music started releasing music in 2004.

1.1.1. Syco Records has a great number if X factor and Britain's got talent contestants and winners for example:  Little Mix, Susan Boyle, Ella Henderson All these artists also have joint record deals with Columbia Olly Murs and Fifth Harmony also have joint record deals but with Epic Records. These are all US record labels. These are just a select few artists there are many more.

1.1.1.1. Syco Records have produced many hit singles including: Ella Henderson's 'Ghost', Little Mix's 'Black magic' and Fifth Harmony's 'Worth it' and 'Work from home' and most recently James Arthurs 'Say you won't let go'. There has been many more hit singles in previous years.

1.2. Columbia is a is an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment. Columbia was founded in 1887 and  is the oldest surviving brand name in the recorded sound business. It is also the second major record company to produce recorded records.

1.2.1. On October 12th there were 85 artists signed to this label with some mainstream artists like  50 cent, Adele, Mariah Carey, Dej loaf, John Legend, Alicia Keys and many, many more.

1.2.1.1. Columbia like Syco have produced many great hit singles including: Mariah Carey's 'all I want for Christmas is you' and 'obsessed (this artist has many more hit singles). The record label as a whole has loads of hot singles as it has the largest amount of people signed.

3.1. Zayn Malik

3.1.1. Zayn Malik made his debut as a solo artist in 2015 after spending 5 years with one direction. The member leaving the band was a shock to the public as it was widely publicised and generated the fan base to introduce a new hashtag, #CUTFORZAYN, this is where fans would take pictures of themselves self harming because of Zayn's departure. Zayn has said "I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right." and the group has no hard feelings towards Zayn's departure saying "We're really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. However Zayn's first single 'PILLOWTALK' reaches no1 in the US and the UK and One Direction has also gone ahead to make music coming back with

4. One Direction all started as solo artists auditioning on the X factor (a talent contest specialising in singing based in Britain). It came down to either eliminating them from the contest or joining forces and they then became One Direction. However, One Direction made it to the quarter finals where they when then eliminated. However Simon offered them a record deal with Syco records where they then went onto producing the hit single 'What makes you beautiful' Which hit the world by storm.

6. One Direction have many ways to distribute their music by using many ancillary windows whether it be online, CD copies or vinyl copies. By having a range of ways to get a copy of the music it attracts a wider demographic. For example vinyl was introduced for the older audience and online and CD copies are seen as a more modern way of listening to music mainly for teenagers.

6.1. One Direction have an official website that sells merchandise like things like T-Shirts and DVDs, they even sell their album.

6.2. All of the combined net worth from merchandise, touring, sponsorships and album sales generated a whopping $215 million.

7. One Direction released their debut album Up All Night, which became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of 2011. In 2012, it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making One Direction the first UK group in history to debut at number one with their first album in the country.

7.1. They became the first British boy band to have both their album (Take Me Home) and single ("Little Things") on number one on the UK Singles Chart at the same time.
