1.1.3. -Zhou represented the idea of the ruled the mandate of heaven.

1.1.4. -The mandate of heaven was part of the dynasty cycle.

1.2. Sumeria

1.2.1. -Fertile land formed an oasis in the midst of deserts and oceans

1.2.2. -Rich soil lies between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers

1.2.3. -The region received little rainfall

1.2.4. -It was a swampy and flat region well suited for agriculture. They grew wheat and barley

2. Science and Technology

2.1. Sumeria

2.1.1. -The Sumerians developed a math system based on the number 60  .

2.1.2. -They learned to use geometry that helped them to build elaborate structures and irrigation systems

2.1.3. -The Sumerians invented the wheel which they used to make pottery and build cars

2.1.4. -Because of their system we still divide an hour into 60 minutes and a circle into 360 degree's.

2.2.2. -Medicines for healing and different education for wealthy.

2.2.3. -The Zhou made different tools for medal making.

2.2.4. -The Shang had technology for irrigation.

3. Economy and trade

3.1. Shang/ Zhou

3.1.1. -Most important was agriculture.

3.1.2. -Most important trade crop was millet.

3.1.3. -Shang created the worlds first type of currency

3.1.4. -In the Zhou you could undertake a private trade buisness.

3.2. Sumeria

3.2.1. -Traded with people from Southwest Asia and beyond.

3.2.2. -Traded for metal, wood and stone.

3.2.3. -Obtained materials for buildings and art through trade.

3.2.4. -Sumer, a distinct social hierarchy developed as trade increased.

4. Arts and Education

4.1. Sumeria

4.1.1. Use of arches, ramsp and columns

4.1.2. They made small objects carved out of ivory

4.1.3. Used cylinder seals to sign documents

4.1.4. Status with large wide open eyes as well as small objects

4.2. Shang Zhou

4.2.1. -Bronze work for vases and cups.

4.2.2. -Tombs were decorated for the poor.

4.2.3. -The calender was based on the cycle of the moon.

4.2.4. -The Zhou made things out of iron.

5. Social Structure and Family

5.1. Sumeria

5.1.1. -Developed social heirarchy called Sumer

5.1.2. -On top were kings priests and principal agents. Next were large landowners and wealthy merchants. Then were artisans, farmers and laborers. At the bottom were slaves.

5.1.3. -Men had political power and made laws.

5.1.4. -Women took care of the home and children

5.2. Shang/ Zhou

5.2.1. -They had small familiess.

5.2.2. -Shangs King tomb was part of the religion.

5.2.3. -Shang China was a large community.

5.2.4. -Families spent their extra time working in the fields.

6.1. Shang/ Zhou

6.1.1. -Polytheistic.

6.1.2. -Taoism, Conclusianism, Buddhism.

6.1.3. -Fuxi brought Barbarians to China

6.1.4. -The gods predicted the future.

6.2. Sumeria

6.2.1. -Polytheistic

6.2.2. -Believed the gods controlled all natural forces

6.2.4. Believed gods were like humans and tried hard to please them

7.1.1. -1st Zhou leader was Confucius.

7.1.2. -2nd Zhou leader was Laozi.

7.1.3. -The Shang Kings surrounded by court.

7.1.4. -The legendary emperor was Fu Xi

7.2. Sumeria

7.2.1. -Each city-state had its own government

7.2.2. -Priests initially governed the city-states.

7.2.3. -War chiefs began to rule as kings.

7.2.4. -Many of the city-states kings' formed dynasties.
