Creating an Engaging Reading Lesson Using Workshop

1. 4th Step - Independent Work - Students apply these skills to their own reading. Older students could complete a response to their reading or keep track of their reading on a sticky note for the teacher to check during conferences. Conferring happens during this step.
2. 2nd Step: Interactive Read Aloud - Choose a book that clearly models the skill you are trying to focus on
3. 3rd Step - Guided Reading - The teacher demonstrates how to tackle a challenging text. Chose a level up by selecting the right lexile level for your class.
4. 1st Step: Build Background knowledge - use a video clip, turn and talk, or simply ask students what they already know on the topic
