Systems of Equations by Mind Map: Systems of Equations

1. Substitution

1.1. Start by solving one of the equations for one of the variables, and then plugging this back into the other equation

1.1.1. After you do this, plug in the variable you found into the equation to find the unknown variable.

2. Elimination

2.1. Start by making either the "x" or the "y" oppostites. (ex. 4 and -4)

2.1.1. After this, eliminate the "opposites" to isolate one variable and solve for it.

2.1.1.1. After you solve for one variable, plug it in and solve for the other .

3. Graphing

3.1. Start by graphing both equations and see where they intersect.

3.1.1. If you have the equation in slope intercept form, graph it. If you have the x and y intercepts, graph them. If not try to find these things out.

3.1.1.1. Wherever the lines intersect, that's the solution.
