ECOSYSTEMS by Mind Map: ECOSYSTEMS

1. Antarctica

1.1. Location

1.1.1. Antarctica is located at the South Pole. the southern most point of the world. In winter it is mostly ice and is 25% larger than Europe

1.2. Tousism

1.2.1. Negative effects

1.2.1.1. More people bring more risk of disturbing fragile ecosystems that take a long time to recover. There is also risk of pollution from the ships and also people bringing with them seeds and spores that shouldn't be in that environment.

1.2.2. Positive effects

1.2.2.1. The more people that visit the area the more widely issues to do with climate change will be known about and rules are in place to minimise the environmental impact.

2. Food chains and webs

2.1. Food chains are when one thing eats another and they rely on this to stay alive. E.g  rabbit eats carrot then fox eats rabbit

2.2. Food webs are several food chains that join together and are dependent on each other.

3. Adaptation

3.1. Desert

3.1.1. Animals and plants

3.1.1.1. In the desert animals and plants have to adapt to harsh environment mostly the temperatures and the lack of water. Animals like camels have adapted to to have big feet so that they don't sin into the sand, the hump that they have carries fat so they can manage without food and they don't really sweat to conserve water.

3.1.1.2. Plants have to survive without much water so usually have few leaves are whats called succulents and have long root systems

3.1.2. People

3.1.2.1. People such as the Bedouin people live a nomadic lifestyle where they move from place to place so they don't run out of resources. They usually live in tents so that they can keep cool in the day and use animal furs to keep warm at night. They may keep herds of camels.

3.2. Rainforest

3.2.1. Animals

3.2.1.1. In the rainforest animals have adapted to use camouflage to avoid predators. Most animals have adapted to be either day or night waking. Birds have adapted to have very keen eyesight so that they can see prey through the dense forest.

3.2.2. Plants

3.2.3. The venus flytrap has adapted to eat flies in order to survive. They have survive with lots of shade have had to develop ways to get to the light and also have wide leaves to catch the water that is there.
