1. Students will create conflict resolution strategies.

1.1. Imagine you are the guidance counselor at Alicia Cortez Elementary School. Two kids have come to you to handle their disagreement. Each thinks they are better than the other at kickball. Compare and contrast different ways of initiating a conversation with the students in order to resolve their conflict.

2. Students will recognize the hardships the populations faced while settling in the new land (weather unpredictability, crop loss/crop abundance, disease, death, etc.)

3. Students will convey the instability of the alliances formed between one country and another country. As well as, Indians and different countries.

4. Imagine you are a cartographer and need to define the boundary lines between multiple countries wishing to stake a claim on a recently discovered territory. Use what you know about the established territories during 17th century North America and create a map of the region.

5. Students will illustrate the landscape boundaries of country and their dominating country.

6. Students will list the popular materials available that caused tension between the competing countries.

6.1. Imagine you are a competitor in an episode of The Wild, a new reality television show that puts you into small groups of 4 people and leaves you in the wild. In order to survive, you must gather materials and food from the environment around you. There is only so many materials available to you and there is another tribe approaching. What materials will you claim first?

7. Students will narrate how alliances were formed between competing nations and the native population.

7.1. Students will work with a partner and act out the role of a colonist or Indian chief to negotiate an alliance. They will create a list of demands and work together to find a compromise in order to make sure both sides are happy.
