1.1. Electronic Medical Record : electronic version of a traditional paper-based record in a single facility, such as a doctor's office or clinic
1.2. EHR (Electronic Health Record) :an official health record for an individual that is shared among multiple facilities and agencies
2. Physicians are able to better diagnose and treat their patients
2.1. easier to comply with HIPAA laws since records are compiled electronically vs via paper
3. Health Information Exchanges (HIE)
3.1. Allows doctors and other health providers to share patient data electronically
4. E-prescribing
4.1. patients medications can be easily refilled, no longer a need for paper perscriptions
5. ICD-10
5.1. a system used by physicians and other healthcare providers to classify and code all diagnoses, symptoms and procedures
6. HIT Definition:
6.1. the area of IT involving the design, development, creation, use and maintenance of information systems for the healthcare industry
6.2. can help providers discover more effective treatment tactics that could reduce ineffective, unnecessary, and redundant procedures/tests that increase costs and inconvience patients
