Why does the candle go out when baking powder is mixed with vinegar?
by Isaiah Christopher Lee Xin En
1. Mixing the powder and the vinegar makes carbon dioxide gas.
2. Unlike oxygen gas, the flame does not easily burn carbon dioxide.
3. It is also heavier than the other gases that make up our atmosphere. Thus the carbon dioxide sinks to the bottom of the jar.
4. If enough gases is made, it will reach the level of the flame.
5. When the candle can't keep burning its material with oxygen, it goes out.
