1. Vision and Goals

1.1. Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre is focused on family and community health with health professionals who assess and treat non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses and referrals to other local health services and personal development groups available on and off reserves.

1.2. Community-led health teams develop programs to improve the social supports and conditions that affect long-term health with culturally appropriate programs and services for Aboriginals, combining traditional healing and Western medical practices.

1.3. Priority populations include all Aboriginal, Métis and Inuit People in the City of Greater Sudbury, as well as people and families from partner First Nations, Wahnapitae, Henvey Inlet, and Magnetawan.

2. Programs and Services for Children and Families

2.1. Child and Youth Program

2.1.1. CYP will provide one-on-one help with specific issue affecting youth and children (e.g., obesity, bullying, or school struggle).

2.2. Child Life Program

2.2.1. Child Life Specialists (CLS) work specifically in health care settings to promote effective coping through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities.

2.3. Clinical Medical Services

2.3.1. CMS will provide primary health care services, education, and health promotion (e.g., doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurse).

2.4. Fitness and Recreation

2.4.1. F&R will engage in exercise to strengthen muscles, heart, lungs with gentle programs for older adults.

2.5. Health Education Promotion Program

2.5.1. Health promoter will run: Lunch N Learns, Fitness, Women's Life Change Series, Nutritional Work Shop Series, and Smoking Cessation Group Support.

2.6. Healthy Choices Program

2.6.1. HCP focuses on child nutrition and children affected by fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) with Parent Support Circle, Family Drop-in, Children’s Drum Support Circle, Community Kitchen, Nutritional Workshop, Family Support Group (families with member living with FASD), Cultural Workshops, and Parenting Group.

2.7. Maternal Child Health

2.7.1. MCH provides support for pregnant women and families with infants with counselling to discuss breastfeeding, nutrition, safety, child development, and parenting.

2.8. Smoking Cessation Group Support

2.8.1. SCGS provides support to help quit smoking.

2.9. Traditional Healing

2.9.1. Aboriginal healing methods to restore balance and connectedness with holistic approach for people, family, and community health, one-on-one sessions, traditional spiritual ceremonies, and cultural workshops that support social, artistic, and intellectual traditions.
