1.2.1. Students will be able to communicate the main event or “what” within the text.

1.2.2. Students will be able to explain the who within the text, verbalizing and/or writing complete and detailed sentences and connecting it directly back to the “what.”

1.2.3. Students will be able to identify and communicate the where within the text, describing a geographic location using the names of continents, countries, and cities.

2.1.1. Group, pair, or individual verbal feedback during class discussions.

2.1.2. Drawing a map with continents and countries in pairs or individually. Teacher monitors and gives feedback.

2.2.1. Creating Sway presentations with individual slides and rubrics and a final quiz.

2.2.2. A final quiz that connects notable physical/mental traits to a character/person.

2.2.3. Presenting the map in front of the class (rubric included) and a final quiz

5.3.1. Five students with limited knowledge=team red pens. These students use their red pens to box individual 5W and H words in the article snippets around the room. They start first at station one and they finish first.

5.3.2. Twelve students with some knowledge=team blue pens. These students underline 5Ws and H phrases. They start second and follow team red pen’s lead.

5.3.3. Five students with more knowledge=team black pens (with post-its). These students write relevant 5W and 1H questions on post-it notes next to the work that’s been completed by team red pens and team blue pens. This team starts at station one last and finishes last.
