1. Religion

1.1. Most were Christians Schools and hospitals run by Church.

1.2. Specific prayers for Saints and often pilgrimage.

1.3. Jewish community, people jealous of wealth. 1290, all Jews forced to leave England.

1.4. By 1200, over 100 parish churches in London.

2. Life

2.1. 660s-800s, London was located west, (now Covent Garden area)

2.2. At the end of 800s, the population was about 8,000.

2.3. By 1300, London was both largest and wealthiest city in England.

2.4. Around 1500s, it grew to 120,000 people.

3. Clothing

3.1. Pointy edge - hard to be active or run.

3.2. Hole cut shoes for comfort.

3.3. Patched and mended footwear markets.

3.4. Wealthy afford latest fashions.

4. Houses

4.1. Ordinary Londoners had thatched roofs with clay and timber walls. Floors were clay and straw.

4.2. Most house activities were around the hearth, the only source of heat in winter where food was cooked through the year.

4.3. When more crowded, taller houses and narrower streets. They suffered many fires/laws from thatched roofs, but ignored.

4.4. The rich/nobility,wealthier clergy afforded stone houses (often with courtyards) in Strand, now the royal place of Westminster.
