The Giver by Mind Map: The Giver

1. Citizens Live Under Harsh Control

2. An illusion of a perfect society covering up the truth

3. Citizens are required to conform to society's expectations

4. Government controls its citizens by converting to a plan of "sameness" to eradicate pain and fear.

5. The government controls the public very strictly. Citizens are assigned jobs and have no say in what field they will work in.

6. Citizens must accept their roles in society and not question their jobs. Citizens also have to live extremely safe lifestyles as a way for the government to prevent physical pain.

7. Citizens in the society do not question it, they accept the life they live and the sameness their lives are filled with

8. As pain and fear are suppressed, citizens do not experience other important feelings like joy and pride

9. All the society is black and white, thus showing no different qualities in the people of the society

10. Main character is one of the few to question

11. Jonas is selected as a giver, only one person in the society is assigned this position

12. Jonas learns all of the tragic and happy events that we know of in our society today

13. This eventually leads to Jonas leaving the society, looking for reality and something other than the dystopia he was forced to live in

14. Examples of the jobs are birth mother, engineer, fish hatchery attendant,

15. Even after Jonas experiences all the negative memories from the giver, he still realizes that life is not meant to be lived under the choking management of his society.

16. At age twelve, each child of the society is assigned their permanent job for the rest of their life
