Q5. How did you attract and address your audience? 作者: Mind Map: Q5. How did you attract and address your audience?

1. Colour Palette:

1.1. Colour Palette: I changed up the colour palette of my magazine by using yellow, grey, white and black, going against stereotypical conventions. This could potentially be eye-catching to the reader, making them want to purchase it. Also, these are quite popping colours and go against the usual conventions which is interesting. This links to the target audience, because they may apply these colours to their outfits, bedroom, phone etc.

2. Masthead:

2.1. I created the masthead so that it is large and bold enabling the magazine to attract more of an audience/draw attention to it.

3. Feedback:

3.1. I asked some of my peers for feedback on my magazine, and they suggested that I should move some of my images around on the contents page to make it look more professional.

4. Images

4.1. For my images throughout my magazine, I chose to use young models to connote youth and so that the readers can relate to the artists more, as my target audience is 16-25 year-olds. I think this would attract my target audience well, because the costumes the models wore contained well-known brands that the young people of today would notice and appreciate, possibly encouraging them to buy the magazine.

4.2. Also, the use of images from concerts like 'The Last Shadow Puppets' image of Alex Turner performing, could attract more people to read the magazine if they are flicking through. This helps promote my music magazine, and links to the uses and gratifications theory 'entertainment' sector.

5. Layout:

5.1. The layout of my cover is quite messy, connoting the whole indie-rock genre, and how they have a careless attitude towards their overall look and how they are viewed by others.

5.2. The main image on the front cover of my magazine takes up around 75/80% of the cover, in the centre third. The use of the rule of thirds, to help attract the attention of my target audience. This is used in the masthead for example; it is brightly coloured and very bold, attracting the reader to the brand name, marking it in their mind.

6. Media Language:

6.1. In regards to media language, I used words like 'Exclusive' to attract the attention of my target audience; this was to encourage them to read the interview/article inside the magazine. Also, I used quite a lot of colloquial language throughout my magazine so that the readers are able to relate/understand, and stay interested in what they are reading.

7. Typography/Font:

7.1. Throughout the creation of my magazine, I used sans-serif font; I did this to follow the conventions of former indie-rock magazines, like NME or Rolling Stone. Sans serif font is very simple and bold, which connotes the indie-rock genre. Since this is very stereotypical of rock magazines, it is more noticeable from fans of this type of music, therefore will attract more of an audience.
