Learn to Play Guitar
by Joshua Mitchell
1. Keep it Familiar
1.1. In order to truly master a song you must know every part of that song based solely on memory
2. Have Patience
2.1. It takes a long time to learn, don't get frustrated if you can't get it in a day
3. Learn Bar Chords
3.1. Learn majors first, but learn how bar chords are the same as majors but harder
4. Learn an easy song first
4.1. Most songs are four chords. Learn how to play those four chords in a rhythmic fashion
5. Buy a Guitar you love
5.1. Odds are if you don't love your music maker, you won't pick it up everyday. I recommend an Ibanez or Fender acoustic for rookies
6. Learn other stringed instruments first
6.1. Smaller stringed instruments like the ukulele have four strings and are a good stepping stone for the guitar
7. Stretch your pinky to 5th fret
7.1. Pinky is weakest, so exercise it often
8. Play major chords
8.1. Learn to play C, G, Am, D chords
9. Fingerpick Scales
9.1. learn to go up and down scales with 2 fingers
10. Play with Drumbeat
10.1. A drumbeat will help establish your sense of rhythm
11. Practice Everyday
11.1. Your fingers will weaken and your mind will forget if you don't practice consistently
