1. Question, Delivery, & Scoring Types
1.1. Question: True/False, Essays, Multiple Choice, Yes/No, Matching or Sequencing, Fill-in the blanks, Higher order thinking questions answered with short answers.
1.2. Delivery: Paper and Pencil, Games/Activities, Sticky note responses, computer based assessments.
1.3. Scoring: Automated scoring, distributed scoring, human scoring, rubrics, checklists.
2. Performance
2.1. Meaning: This is an assessment type that requires students to perform a task rather than select an answer.
2.1.1. Also known as alternative assessments.
2.2. Examples: group projects, presentations, speeches, portfolios, reading logs, journals, and individual projects.
3. Summative
3.1. Meaning: Given at the end of an instructional unit to measure students knowledge of that unit.
3.1.1. Review of a Large Chunk of Learning
3.2. Planning Summative assessments: Review important information, teach assessment taking skills, focus on what you want them to know from the unit.
3.3. Examples of Summative Assessments: Standardized testing, final exams, research projects, and major projects.
4. Formative
4.1. Meaning: The process of gathering information on students learning.
4.1.1. Effective Feedback, Engaging students, differentiate
4.2. Planning Formative Assessments: plan for student and teacher interaction or student to student interaction, gather evidence of learning and evaluate that evidence, be are to give beneficial yet immediate feedback.
4.2.1. This type of assessment is spontaneous and random, it can be done through informal observations and questioning.
