1. Formative Assessment
1.1. Definition: This assessment gathers proof of student learning. Feedback can be provided for students, and adjustments can be made to instruction in order to benefit student learning outcomes.
1.2. Example: Quiz, discussion
2. Interim/Benchmark Assessment
2.1. Definition: Formal assessment done periodically throughout the school year that provides little to no student feedback. Typically done about every six weeks or after a unit or chapter.
2.2. Example: tests, projects
3. Summative Assessment
3.1. Definition: This assessment is typically done after a large portion of learning has been done.
3.2. Example: standardized test, final exam
4. Performance Assessment
4.1. Definition: The student performs the task or skill that this assessment wants to measure by performing real world tasks that require the skill instead of just asking students questions about how to do this skill.
4.2. Examples: projects, portfolios
5. Diagnostic Assessment
5.1. Definition: A diagnostic asssessment assesses what a student knows before actually implementing the unit of learning. This provides the teacher with information on where he/she should start teaching and what focus points she should have within the unit.
5.2. Examples: pre-test, KWL chart (would tell teacher what students already know about the topic)
