1.1. Functionalism-picture of society that stresses the independence of the social system Conflict Theory- inequality of social groups, higher standards of certain groups Interactionalism- study of how people act in society

1.1.1. Employment,Education and Mobility,Teacher behavior,Tracking,Gender Employment- Students hope that getting through school will get them a better job Education/Mobility- Students walk into the door and have the freedom of education Teacher Behavior- teachers keep education alive they need to show students that behavior is important Tracking-Without tracking students cant perform their best. Gender- We need to show students that it doesn't matter. All men and women are equal. We want to lift up students self esteem.

4.1. Developmentalism-Helps the needs of the student rather than society. It focuses on each childs developmental stages. As a future teacher I want to help all my students grow no matter what level they are at.

4.2. The Mimetic Tradition is one of the two traditions of teaching. This works by following by example. The teacher tells you something and then you would repeat her. The second tradition is Transformative. This has to do with a complete change in the student. The teacher can also have an affect on the student during this time. Almost like an artistic affect.

5.1. Class-Student achievement was connected with parent income.- Gender- In the past women got less of an education then men did, Color/Ethnicity- Whites generally were more educated. It also depended on how well their parents before them were educated. That played a big role in statistics.

5.2. The Coleman Study had two responses. One group of people wanted to define the charecteristics of schools. The second response of sociologists reexamined his work many times.

6.1. Cultural deprevation theory #1 African American children do less well in school because they adapt to their place inside the school. theory #2 Students are wanting a change. They don't want to be like the middle class and have a regular school education

7. Educational Reform Chapter 10

7.1. School Reforms- No Child Left Behind by President Bush this was created to help students make sure their school is teaching them to their best ability and we can know as teachers where our students stand in their educstion. The second is President Obamas reform Race To the Top which helps prepare students for college, it also helps mesure student growth.

7.2. Economic/Community Reforms 1. State Intervention is when schools allow the state to take over. This may be because their schools need help or it may be because it can really help a students learning when done correctly. 2. School Finance is a reform to help those schools who need supplies and extra money. It helps students get an education. Some of these students may have not been able to attend school without this money.

8.1. Intellectual-growth, political-Freedom and our rights that we have, economical-how to use our resources and learn how to create a healthy environment and social-learning how to work as a team and learn together

8.1.1. The role of the school is to create an environment where the srudents can learn and grow in a safe environment. A lot of performace issues are kids are in the same classes when they aren't on the same learning level Lots of our educational problems come from parents not backing up rhe school.

9. History of U.S. Education Chapter 3

9.1. Horace Manns Movement was a very powerful movement in education. His goal was to make education available to more children.

9.1.1. Common School which was also known as public schooling ia a interperation of education. Horace Mann was elected first secratart of state board of education during this time.
