8. Rationale: This unit is to discuss the styles of experimentation within the medium of painting. MODERN ART is the moment painting cut away from the rigid style of the traditional French institutions and emerged as a style that pushed the boundaries of various materials experimented within the confines of the canvas. The students will then explore other artists through research online (Year 7/8) and Year 10 will research whilst on excursion to the Bendigo Art Gallery in WK 2. This is all a process for them to engage in critical and creative thinking towards a concept of their own. The weeks will follow with preparing, painting and reflection of their artwork, in the end of term exhibition, for this unit.

9. Visual Thinking Strategies VTS is an inquiry-based strategy that begins with open-ended questions and discussions to build confidence by paraphrased comments of the students’ observations. Three questions are asked to encourage independent thinking and talked about what they saw and felt. Three questions are… 1. What’s going on in this picture? 2. What do you see that makes you say that? 3. What more can we find?

10. LESSON 2 Painting with Tones B&W Reflecting about Direction of Light. Working with technique of brushes and other tools for texture in painting. Painting on paper. Start thinking of their own concept for their canvas in their visual diary
