1. Every time the altitude is increased by 152 meters, the temperature decreases by -1°.

3. Mountaineers measure their altitude by measuring the air pressure around them using an altimeter. This is called indicated altitude.

4. As altitude increases, the air pressure decreases, which means that there is less and less air above and around you. This makes it harder to breathe and can cause altitude sickness. This is called "thin air".

4.1. If you would teleport from where you are now to the tip of Mt. Everest, you would die in less than five minutes because of the drastic change in air pressure.

4.2. This is because gravity pulls the air molecules close to the earth.

4.3. It takes a couple days to recover from altitude sickness.

5. An average plane can go up to 11,887 meters.

6. As air rises to higher altitudes, it expands. This means that the gases within the air spread out, making the air thinner.
