Sophomore Capstone

My two year career at Calumet High School has been eventful to say the least. The last two years at this wonderful school have taught me so much more than I could ever have imagined the first time I stepped through those front doors. Surprisingly however, most of what I have learned has been outside of my multitude of text books. Although most people view school as a place of conventional learning dominated by tiring note taking and tests, high school has been far from that belief that I now know to be false. It is true however that high school is full of that, but more importantly, high school is full of everyday life lessons and life tests. The choices every student of Calumet must make everyday are just as important to their growth as a person as the notes and tests they take in any classroom. Much of my high school life, like almost everyone else's, has been full with almost every adjective imaginable. It is so simple to describe my two years here with either extreme; whether it be immense joy or intense frustration. Although it is terribly difficult to describe my entire two years at the grand institution of Calumet High School, I have summed up a small compilation of work, and projects from the past, and put together a portfolio that demonstrates my achievements, as well areas for growth, as an attempt to describe what type of student I am. I am very proud of the student that I have become. I have showed phenomenal results in many of my projects and work. You will see in the mind map I have put together, scores and results that stand out among the top in my sophomore class. Success is a complicated thing for me. I can honestly say that I don’t try to succeed for the sake of succeeding, but because of the fear of failing. Also because if I was to get anything below a B, my mom would be making new living arrangements for me elsewhere. Also noted in my portfolio are my areas of growth. I have an abundance of very good grades, but just as many bad ones to battle them, but where would any of us be without mistakes. Many of my bad decisions have caused me to loose opportunities last year, that I have been given this year. In their life, everyone has at least missed an opportunity and has faced some misfortune. One door closes another door opens, but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us. When a person is closed-minded, they don't see the opportunities or potential in any given situation. I am a close minded person and when a person has a closed mind they tend to close outside thought, and sometimes their own as well. This year in New Tech, I have been able to work on my mentality. I can no longer be a close minded person. With all the group work and collaboration, I am almost forced to leave a certain degree of individuality behind, and focus on what is best for the group as a whole. This new mentality as a result of New Tech has changed me in so many ways as a person, and a student, mostly for the better. I have learned to become more of a “team player”. I have acquired the skills to think as a unit, to allow all types of ideas and view them the same. As well as respect all the ideas given equally. I have also learned to think of what is best for the good of my group. As over exaggerated as that might sound, it is very true. New Tech has taught me what the real world is like, and is going to be expected of me in a real life job setting. Although I wish instead of jumping into New Tech and not knowing what results to expect, the school staff would have slowly moved the school into things. I wished this because of the first few months of school, no one literally knew what they were doing, but now all is good. At first I wasn’t a real huge fan of New Tech, but now I have come to appreciate it. It really takes learning to new levels and directions. So to finally end this, have fun going through my portfolio. I have nothing to hide. This is me. I will try my very best to give you the perfect first impression. Hopefully you will like me. If you don’t, then I really can’t do anything about that now can I.

Reflection

This project was the first New Tech project I ever did. It was a very fun and informative project. It kind of showed me what we were going tobbe doing in the new style of learning. I can't remember what grade I got on this project but i'm pretty sure it was a good one. This project was the start of New Tech to me. Every project I have done to this day is based off of knowledge I have aquired from doing this project.     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Communication- I had to communicate with Mr. Nelson when I presented, and do it good at that. Content- I had to do it to show that I understood it.   Communication- I had to communicate with my teachers, as well as my group to complete the project. Work Ethic- I had to work on it every day all hour until it was do.

Reflection

This project was a pretty fun project. Mostly because I was able to express my superior artsistic ability. My far 3D model far surpassed the akill of my other classmates. When I work with anything where you have to express artistic ability, I shine. I think another factor for my success in this project was that I love the Odyssey. Anything dealing with Greek mythology I am automaticaly intersested. This was probably the best project we have done in English/World History. All the other projects we do in there are pointless, and we never have enough time to complete them. This was the most well balanced project in English/World History.     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Communication- I had to communicate Mrs. Weirzbicki when I presented, and do it good at that. Content- I had to do it to show that I understood the project.   Technology- I used a computer to create the diorama. Collaboration- I used my groups input to create everything in the scene. Communication- I had to communicate with my group as well as the teachers.

This project was my favorite out of the prjects I have done this year. This project brought out an interest in me that I didn't know that I had. I liked it mostly because i felt like I was in a real life, real job setting. I also  liked the project because I was Able to create punnett squares and pedigrees based off of information that I gathered myself. All in all this was by far the best project I have done this year. BioHealth has the best projects!   This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Communication- I had to communicate with Mr. Nelson when I presented, and do it good at that. Content- I had to do it to show that I understood the material. Work Ethic- I had to be working on the project all hour every day, until the project was do.

Reflection

The web page was a very fun project even though once again we did not have enough time to complete it. I shined in this project, just as my rubric shows, because once again I am very good with anything you have to design and add pictures to. I also liked this project because for one this project wasn't just about enlish. We acually learned some things in history. This is one of three projects where we learned about history, and i enjoyed it a lot. I was also very happy with my grade. I recieved an A on the project and you can't argue with that!     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Communication- I had to communicate with Mrs Weirzbicki when I presented, and do it good at that. Content- I had to do it to show that I understood the material. Reflection

I am happy with my scores on the Criterion essays. I demonstrate that I can follow a writing prompt and recieve a passing grade at that. Although I got fives, there is still room, for improvments. Next time I will try for sixes and even then work hard to achieve a higher level of writing excellence.     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Content- I had to write to show that I understood correct sentence structure, grammer, organization etc.

Reflection

This was one of the greatest achievments of my school life. I have worked very hard this year and getting this is a huge reward. I will Continue to work hard, and try to get recognized for other academic achievments.     This relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I had to do all my work for the year right, with quality and turn in all my work on time. Reflection

The Big Boy project was a very fun project to do. It is my second favorite project. In the Big Boy project was got to use tools lke hammers and screw drivers. I had a blast making it, but I like it even more because after the project I was a DNA molecule master. I knew everything I needed to know about structure and functions. I also recieved an A for this project, and im always happy to get one of those. Once again, BioHealth has the best projects!     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Communication- I had to communicate with Mr. Nelson when I had questions or issues, which I did. Content- I had to do it to show that I understood it. The Where Are They Now project was another good project where we learned world history, it was one of the three. I like this project because I once again got to show my art skills. I was also very happy with my grade. The rubric is evedence that I knew what I was doing as well as talking about. All in all i was very happy with, my performance.     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I did it right, with quality and turned it in on time. Reflection

I am very pleased with my results from my last interim tests. I have demonstrated that I have mastered all of the standards that I am supposed to, but there is still much left to go. I have to keep on passing my tests and learning the standards so that I can garuntee a passing score on the ECA.     This project relates to our SWLO's in the areas of: Citizenship-I took the tests right, and with quality work. Content- I had to do it to show that I understood the standards.
