The civil war and the Commonwealth by Mind Map: The civil war and the Commonwealth

1. In the struggle for supremacy of the civil war in 1642, there were two opposing factions:

2. the Royalists or Cavaliers, who supported the king, and the Roundhead, who supported parliament, led by Cromwell, so called because they had their short cut hair. After the defeat of Royalists, the king Charles was imprisoned and Cromwell took control of London, in which with “rump Parliament”he sentenced to death the king Charles I.

3. So,the monarchy was abolished and Cromwell founded a sort of republic called Commonwealth, in which he was little more than a dictatorship. In this period England consolidated its commercial power and it defeated many enemies.
