Age of Discovery

1. Christopher Columbus

1.1. He discovered spices from all over

1.2. He founded new land just in general, he would later on overtake that land

1.3. He was the first to find the Americas and really explore in that area

1.4. Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer

1.5. Overall made 4 total trips across the Atlantic Ocean

2. Copernicus

2.1. Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance- and Reformation-era mathematician and astronomer

2.2. Heformulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than the Earth at the center of the universe

2.3. Wrote a book to his friends explaining why he believes the sun was in the center

2.4. Many of his theories cam after he witnessed a solar eclipse in 1500

2.5. He was hesitant to let his theory out at first because he believed it was incomplete

3. William Harvey

3.1. William Harvey was an English physician who made seminal contributions in anatomy and physiology

3.2. He was the first known physician to describe completely and in detail the systemic circulation of blood in the human body

3.3. Harvey's research was furthered through the dissection of animals

3.4. Harvey was also the first to suggest that humans and other mammals reproduced via the fertilisation of an egg by sperm

3.5. Both James and Charles took a close interest in and encouraged Harvey's research

4. Francisco Pizarro

4.1. Pizarro's first expedition,was a failure as his conquistadores, sailing down the Pacific coast couldn't go any farther after reaching bad weather

4.2. His second exploration they sailed farther down south and found much more land. They ran into many obstacles but still found new land.

4.3. Conquered the last Inca Emperor

4.4. His main goal was to explore South America

4.5. Defeated the emperor of Peru

5. Hernan Cortes

5.1. In 1521 he traveled to Mexico for his expedition

5.2. Led the expedition to fall of Aztec empire

5.3. Killed and defeated many Cuban soldiers that were sent to take him out

5.4. Became friends with many of the natives

5.5. Arrived and stayed in Cuba before he officially moved to Mexico
