2. Slavery started I. The early 17th century and has continued ever since.In the americas it started in North America in 1619. Slaves were meant to grow and take care of people's dirty work. They helped the most during the revolutionary war since most people where off fighting the war or helping out or taking people who were at wars jobs. Slaves took care of everything from growing crops to cleaning houses to watching the children.
