Our target audience by Mind Map: Our target audience

1. Our music video is not specified for one particular gender however for a girl band the typical gender of there audience is normally girl as they can tend to relate themselves to a member of the group. The normal 'ideal' audience for a girl band is a teenage girl is secondary school who is trying to find there true identity, meaning they can do this through their songs. Although this is the typical target audience for a girl band, due to our video not being a typically 'girly-girl' video we are hoping to attract both genders helping us spread the message of alcoholism to everyone.

2. Once again we do not have a set ethnicity that we are trying to target for our audience - we aim to try and spread the message to alcoholism to all ethnic groups and religions as it doesn't really matter which ethnic group people are from, this societal problem can affect anyone and everyone.

3. The habit that we are concentrating on is drinking. This is because it is becoming a well known habit across the country. More and more people are becoming effected by it through themselves or through their family. By outlining the key problems in our music video, me and Jess are hoping it will help more people understand that is isn't always an option - which many people think it is. It can change the mind and brain of the individual which then leads to dependency for the drink resulting in more problems such as financial and family problems.

4. Jess and I are hoping to aim for active audience as our music video has a vital message included in it. We are hoping for people to respond and engage in our video, so that people feel like that they can share their stories with confidence with other people going through the same problems as them.

5. We are aiming to achieve two different types of audience for our music video - first of all, we are aiming to support people who can relate to alcoholism in any way by showing them the effects of what consuming alcohol can do to yourself and people around you and what the difference in life it makes. Secondly - we are also aiming for the wide market of pop listeners and others who like this sort of music. This audience consists of more younger people such as teenagers therefore providing an inside sight of what alcohol can do might help them become more responsible when drinking.

6. Whist filming our music video, we will be using different internal and external locations. For our internal locations we will be using a house (either mine or Jess's) to show what family life i like with an alcoholic in the frame. We will also be filming inside a pub to show how often people with this problem spend there. We will be also filming the non-alcoholic sister playing the piano inside the school hall to show that there is some line at the end of the tunnel. For our external locations we will be filming at a grave yard to show the darkness that they are going through at these though times as well as smashing beer bottles to show what alcohol can actually do to you - make you change your mood quickly an how angry the victim can get.

7. We are aiming for both a mass and niche audience. The mass audience will be the pop listeners who enjoy this type of music as well as the niche audience of the friends and family's of the victim of alcoholism, as well as victim themselves. By producing this type of video, both types of audience are able to see the alcohol awareness video and help more people understand.

8. Use and gratifications theory and our audience. Bulmler and Katz developed a theory about how audience use media texts for various reason. There are 5 reasons Blumlers and Katz identified why people used media and they are: 1) Diversion 2) Personal Relationships 3) Personal Identity 4) Surveillance 5) Entertainment. The ones that will relate to our music video will be personal relationships, personal identity and surveillance. This is because our music video is one to give people information about alcoholism therefore people may be able to relate due to there family, friends or even themselves.
