2.1.1. When African Americans moved to northern and western cities they were able to express their culture

3. **Leaders & Presidents**What makes an effective or ineffective leader?

3.1. FDR vs Hoover

3.1.1. FDR was more liked by everyone, but once the Great Depression started, people started to lose hope, even with the new deals

3.2. MLK

3.2.1. believed everyone should be equal. black and whites should be able to live along each other

3.3. LBJ

3.3.1. After the death of JFK, LBJ used the death to say and do what he wanted

4. **Government** What is the role and responsibility of the American government?

4.1. Prohibition

4.1.1. People were still buying alcohol and making it. Government had no control

4.1.1.1. The idea was to make sure families stayed together and wouldn't become poor. Crimes increased

4.2. New deal

4.2.1. The government came up with new deals for relief, recovery, and reform. Their intentions were to help anyone in any hard times

4.3. Spread of Communism

4.3.1. The American government tried to stop the spread of communism

4.4. Red Scare

4.4.1. Was making a threat, acting they would overthrow the government

4.5. The Great Society

4.5.1. large social programs and cuts taxes, government debt will increase

5.2.1. civil rights activists that believed in violence as only self defense

5.2.1.1. can be risky tactic if force up against is stronger

5.3.1. blacks were continuously fighting for equal rights and stop Jim Crow laws

5.4.1. the men passed away but their idea stay alive

5.5. JFK

5.5.1. the drama of civil rights was so intense he couldn't avoid it forever

6. **Foreign Relations** How have foreign entanglements influence America?

6.1. World War 1

6.1.1. Forming allies can draw a country into a broader conflict

6.1.1.1. When the U.S. is involved in world affairs to a large extent it is hard to be neutral if a major conflict breaks out

6.2. Containment

6.2.1. Containing an idea is very challenging and it can lead the U.S. into conflicts in wars

6.3. Vietnam

6.3.1. Vietnamization- This was the process of replacing American troops with South Vietnamese troops. President Nixon wanted them out because of backlash he had gotten and the war kept getting more intense.

6.3.2. Aftermath- When soldiers came back from the war, most didn't have anywhere to go or have any money. The war basically took over their lives, including them coming back with diseases or having PTSD of what happened. It ruined peoples lives. Many Americans also no longer trusted the government because they really didn't know what was going on.

6.3.3. Fighting- The American troops couldn't tell North and South Vietnamese apart and there weren't any uniforms to distinguish the enemy. The North Vietnamese had tunnels so they could attack and retreat before Americans could fight back. The American soldiers didn't know that so they were unprepared. I think a big problem with the war was that they didn't really know what they were getting themselves into and they ended up not containing communism afterall.
