1.2.1. Hitler is what happens when leaders go unchallenged. No one was there to stop him from starting the Holocaust and killing millions

1.2.2. When the government took the Japanese-Americans to internment camps we learnded that we should not punish people because of their race

1.3.1. We learn that oppressed people will not stay oppressed.

1.3.3.1. AA wanted to be treated equally in public places and protected by doing sit-ins

2. ***Economics*** How has economics impacted American & Americans?

2.1. The Great Depression

2.1.1. When the New Deal was created to fix the economic problems it cost a lot of money and government debt increased

2.2. Causes of the Great Depression

2.2.1. People taking out loans to buy stocks: buying high and selling low

3. ***Migration*** What causes migration and how has it impacted America?

3.1. The Great Migration (1920's)

3.1.1. People suffered from poverty, unemployment, and overcrowding

3.1.2. When groups of people migrate the settle in concentrated area which has pros and cons

4. ***Leaders & Presidents*** What makes an effective or ineffective leader?

4.1. The Great Depression: FDR vs. Hoover

4.1.1. FDR's way to deal with the Great Depression was to use the government to help. (People liked his way better)

4.1.2. Hoover's way to deal with the Great Depression was to let them do it on their own

4.2. World War II

4.2.1. (Pivotal Battles) Leaders who use total war may be immoral but are very effective

4.3. Civil Rights

4.3.1. MLK & Malcom X

4.3.1.1. Eventhiugh MLK and Malcom X are dead their legacy still lives on

4.4. Vietnam War

4.4.1. Ho Chi Minh

4.4.1.1. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of North Vietnam. The United States liked Minh as a leader except for the fact that he was a Communist. The United states not supporting him because he was a communist is one place that we went wrong. We learned that just because someone has different beliefs does not mean that they are not the right person to lead.

5.1. 1920's

5.1.1. Prohibition

5.1.1.1. Crime increased because of Prohibition

5.1.1.2. Very expensive for the government to make drugs illegal

5.1.1.3. Difficult to stop people from taking a popular drug

5.2. The Great Depression

5.2.1. When the New Deal was created to fix the economic problems it cost a lot of money and government debt increased

5.2.2. Government role expanded because of the Great Depression: government provided jobs and told businesses what the could and could not do

5.3.1. (Atomic Bomb) The dropping of the atomic bomb may have ended WWII, but casualties were high and the effects afterwards had both positive and negative points

5.4.1. Red Scare

5.4.1.1. When people in government believe and spread propaganda there are major consequences

5.4.1.2. The Government has to make sure the threat they are taking on is real

5.5. JFK & LBJ

5.5.1. LBJ Great Society

5.5.1.1. When the government cuts taxes and creates large social programs, government debt increases.

5.6.1. CRM caused equal representation in the government making it more equal

5.6.2.1. Voting Act of 1964 had mad it possible for AA to vote with out having to pay poll taxes or take tests

6.1. The Radio (1920's)

6.1.1. When there are new technologies that can broadcast over a wide range we get a similar culture and get more connected

6.2.1. Technology advanced so quickly noone was ready for it

6.2.2. Trench Warfare

6.2.2.1. Technology advances very quickly, influencing the style of war fare

6.3.1. Atomic Bomb

6.3.1.1. The atomic bomb brought good and bad impacts n our society. Although it killed hundreds of thousands it was the fastest way to bring an end to the war

6.4. LBJ & JFK

6.4.1. Television

6.4.1.1. JFK used TV to get people to like him and vote for him. Every president since JFK has used TV as a way to got votes

7. ***Media*** To what extent does the media influence people? To What extent does the media mirror and reflect society?

7.1. World War II

7.1.1. We earned the media is very influential to the public, Hitler used it to his advantage and so did the other countries in the war. EX. Propaganda

7.2.1. invention of credit

7.2.1.1. The invention of credit had made a big hit in the bonus. What most consumers did not know was that every time they used credit they were creating mass debt

7.2.1.1.1. economics, mass prroduction consumption, farms and businessees were pushing out way more goods than needde, kickstarted the dust bowl,

7.3.1. Red Scare

7.3.1.1. Due to media the red scare was more widespread and made people very fearful of Communism

7.4. Civil Rights Movement

7.4.1. Media caused the CRM to become widespread and caused more people to get involved. Media made the CRM popular

7.4.2. Emmet Till

7.4.2.1. If his mom did not have an open casket the CRM probably would not have started

7.5. JFK & LBJ

7.5.1. JFK Assassination

7.5.1.1. When a traumatic event occurs on television that is not well filmed or understood people will make up theories and rumors to fill in the gaps

7.5.1.2. Just because you have video does not prove that you are right because you do not have all the info

7.6. Vietnam War

7.6.1. Protest

7.6.1.1. Media played a big roll in the spread of information about the war. For example in Times magizine they printed hundreds of pictures of dead soldiers. This spread of media caused many people to protest the war. No one supported it. We learned that Media and peoples opinions are just as important in war if you want the government to be respected for their decisions

8. ***Foreign Relations*** How have foreign entanglements influenced America?

8.1. World War 1

8.1.1. When the US is involved in wold affairs to a large extent, it is hard to stay neutral if a major conflict breaks out.

8.1.2. Forming allies can draw the country into broader conflict.

8.1.3. Treaty of Versilles

8.1.3.1. The T.O.V. was put in place to punish Germany, but the punishments were too harsh, which allows someone like Hitler to rise to power

8.2. World War II

8.2.1. After WWI, the world didn't learn its lesson, which led to similar causes of WWII. But after WWII, things changed

8.2.2. The atomic bomb, after it went off it did not ease the tension between the US and Soviet Union. We learned that sacrifice is just as important as battle.

8.2.3. Allies (NATO)

8.2.3.1. The more allies we have the more people we have to help fight out battles and the more likely we are to win

8.3. Cold War

8.3.1. Marshall Plan

8.3.1.1. Helping countries when their in need means that they will help you when you are in need

8.3.2. Korean War

8.3.2.1. In order to stop Communism from spreading into places the US had to engage in war

8.3.2.2. Just because you think your goal is just does not mean it will be easy to accomplish

8.3.3. NATO

8.3.3.1. NATO made it so countries could get the military help they needed

8.3.3.2. NATO is stopping aggressive actors on the world stage

8.4. Vietnam War

8.4.1. Containment

8.4.1.1. The US's policy of containment is to stop Communism from spreading no matter what. This was a problem because it was obvious that Ho Chi Minh should be in charge of Vietnam but he was a communist. which meant that the US could not support him. The US thought that stopping communism was the right thing to do but in this situation we learned that there are exception to this Ho Chi Minh as leader was the right thing to do.
