What is Technology af Mind Map: What is Technology

1. My Creative Aspects

1.1. I created a mindmap

1.2. why this creative

1.2.1. Although this is my first attempt with a mindmap, I find the idea of all your information being displayed all over the place but still being connected, a fun way to document your ideas and also a good brain puzzle exercise.

2. What i thought before

2.1. Prior to this course, I had categorized technology into two subtypes; A source of communication (mobile phones, electronic email, and television sets) and A source of transportation ( cars, trains, airplanes, and ships). Both of these technological categories have undergone a large degree of growth since their invention, making things easier for us.

3. Conclusion

3.1. Technology is not an easy word to define as it viewed differently by different people. Kevin Kelly's (2010), ted talk described technology as anything a human mind makes which is useful.

3.1.1. From my Point of view, Technology is the application of arts, science, and math in order to benefit life (New World Encylopedia, 2015, para.6).

4. What I think now

4.1. After the incorporation of all the course readings, videos and my previous knowledge of technology, my view on technology has become broader and complex. I now understand technology as not only a source of machines, instruments, clothing, communicating and transporting devices but the skills used in producing and using them (Bian, 1937, p. 860). According to Barbour(1993), Technology is explained as applying organized knowledge to practical tasks with the use of people and machine (p.3)

4.1.1. To further explain, technology does not only encompass of technological pieces of equipment but how we as a society use our skills to produce them and convert them for our use (Dryer, 2010, para. 3)

5. Supporting Views

5.1. From the Microsoft 2014 Superbowl commercial, the relationship between technology and society are endless. it's an innovation that allows medical advancement, connects people across the world, promotes globalization, it marketable and accessible to all ages. Dryer (2010), categorizes technology into four different sections; Technology as hardware, Technology as manufacturing, Technology as methodology, Technology as social usage ( para 2-5).

5.1.1. Technology as manufacturing is explained as things that do not occur naturally, such as a clock, shovel, laptop (Dryer, 2010, para. 2)

5.1.2. Technology as manufacturing is explained as things used to make the other things and the process involved in the creation. An example is vat holding molten steel in the creation of a car (Dryer, 2010, para. 3)

5.1.3. Technology as a methodology is explained as the knowledge, skills, method and routine behind creating modern hardware (Dryer, 2010, para. 4)

5.1.4. Technology as social usage is explained as to how the general public uses technology (Dryer, 2009, para. 5). It also views Technology as something that affects the general public individually and socially (Dryer, 2010, para. 6).
