2. What is EGD?

2.1. Engineering Graphics and Design integrates cognitive and manipulative skills that are used to design and communicate graphically. The subject combines lines and symbols to render services and design processes and systems that contribute to economic growth and enhanced quality of life.

2.2. Derived from technical drawing. Teaches the graphical language which is primary for communication in the technological world.

2.3. Internationally acknowledged: EGD is known as Design Technology in England, Australia and New Zealand. In Northern Americas still as Technical Drawing.

5.1. The Assessment Standards gives the broad framework for the curriculum. Although the AS do not define the content and concepts, it remains the only guidelines from which defined content and concepts are derived.

12. PAT

12.1. 1. The primary purpose is to assess Three subjective content topics namely, the Design Process and CAD drawings as well as the Presentation and quality of instrument drawings.

12.2. 2. Each Practical Assessment Task consists of two parts: Part 1: the Design Process, 2; Presentation Drawings (including CAD)

12.3. 3. Each learner must complete one PAT for every year of the FET phase.

12.4. 4. As the Pat is essentially Paper 3 of the examination, it must be completed under controlled conditions at the school!
