1. Conscription, also known as Draft was a law made during the Civil War. People got "drafted" to fight for a side in the Civil War. The Main motto was "Join or get drafted".
2. To pat off war debts, Congress levied the first income tax. Congress took money from other's paycheck to pay war debts. People went crazy and this caused people to steal.
3. Women played a big role in the Civil War. Many females disquised themselves as men and joined the army. Others worked as Nurses as other took over family businesses and farms.

8. General Sherman made a total war to takeover Atlanta. Total war means all out attack aiming for enemy forts.
9. After taking Atlanta, General Sherman traveled toward the Atlantic Ocean to takeover Savannah. On their way, they set fire to buildings, pulled up train tracks and seized livestock and crops.
10. The Battle of the Wilderness occured in February 1865 when General Sherman traveled across the Carolinas.
11. Richmond was torn apart by the Union and the Confederacy competing. Many homes were taking over for shelter and the people were used to help. It went from quiet to noisy.
12. On April 2nd, Grant and his troops broke through Confederacy blockades. By evening Richmond belonged to the Union. Lee and his troops tried to retreat to the Appommattox Court House but he just surrendered.
13. About 260,000 Confederate Soldiers were killed. The Union's death went over 360,000 including 37,000 African Americans.
