DURATION The use of sounds of different lengths & all aspects of timing.

1. Think about the rhythm!

2. Can you hear any syncopation?

2.1. Syncopation - playing in between beats.

3. Can you write out the rhythm using notes?

4. What is the beat like? Strong/weak/non existent?

4.1. Beat - Underlying pulse

5. What is the time signature?

5.1. Simple? (4/4, 3/4, 2/4)

5.2. Compound? (6/8, ect)

6. What about the tempo? Is it consistent/inconsistent? It is altered at any time?

6.1. Tempo - The speed of the beat.

7. Are there any rhythmic ostinatos? Where/when/how long/what are they used for?

7.1. Ostinato - a short repeated phrase
