1. What is it?

1.1. Is a chronic progressive neurological disease that affects a small area of neurons in an area of the brain known as the substantia nigra.

2. Parkinson's disease causes these nerve cells that produce dopamine to die and as a result, the movements of the body are affected.

2.1. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that transmits signals between areas of the brain responsible for movement.

3. How important are genes in this disease?

3.1. There are some changes in the genes that can increase the risk of having Parkinson's, in approximately 1 out of 10 cases.

3.1.1. If any of these changes occurs does not mean that you have this disease, some people will have it and others will not, doctors do not know why, it may have something to do with genes or something in the environment.

3.2. Can it be inherited?

3.2.1. It can, but it is rare and affects only a small number of families. Approximately this affects 1 in 100 people.
