Question 7 ; Looking back in your preliminary product, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ? by Mind Map: Question 7 ; Looking back in your preliminary product, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ?

1. Sound was something after looking over our preliminary piece I knew it had to be improved

1.1. Editing in non diegetic sounds like music for sound tracks, to add atmosphere and stings are crucial to provoke emotions from the audience in order to keep their interest.

1.2. From doing research, I found that sound pretty much tells the story, when taken away, the viewer is lost. I found that the information we take in is 40% visual 60% sound. So in our opening we took great care in the decisions for sound

1.3. In the production of the sound I learnt and awful lot about the process of adding sound. As I had never done anything technical like this before everything was new to me. However now I think I have the basics of Adobe Premiere.

2. Setting we were more aware of also

2.1. In our preliminary we made the mistake of filming once in room with green walls, and another in with blue walls.

2.2. In planning we realised the setting was important to connote the characters way of thinking, for example Kirby was suppose to be a wanna be mad scientist.

2.2.1. There were nowhere near enough iconic symbols to suggest this as she was merely in a class room.

2.3. When doing our opening the location and setting was very important to portray the personalities, as well as their way of livin

2.3.1. The Villain for example was shown to be isolated and a recluse by the confined space along with the props of the photos and the newspaper clippings on the Hero.

3. Props were something we thought about half heartedly in our preliminary. In planning we aimed to use various adventures props, but when it came to filming we didn’t use them

3.1. When doing our oppening, the props worked with the setting in order to help portray the character and thier lifestyle. The symbolic references provides information for the audiance as to what interests the character.

3.1.1. E.g. The Villain with the watch shows his obsession with time

4. Editing Programs

4.1. In the previous task we used the Serif Movie Plus editing program which is a good program, but didn’t have all the editing capabilities of Premiere.

4.1.1. In comparison our first piece of filming was very basic and at some points jumped from scene to scene.

4.2. By using Premier the shots could be fine-tuned to flow, the main points this was needed was the action match.

4.2.1. For example the opening scene in the bedroom there was difficulty in making the match on action fit together smoothly due to the positioning of the Hero in the scene.

4.2.2. Due to Premier being so advanced, the clips could be broken down into milliseconds to see exactly where we were going wrong.

4.3. Editing has improved enormously from the preliminary task

4.3.1. Things like judging appropriate timings for long and short takes.

4.3.2. Graphic matches to link scenes together to help portray the fact they are the same body just different personalities, shown by the clocks

4.3.3. Shot revers shot instead of 180 degree rule to reduce the intensity of the conversation.

5. Camera Angles

5.1. Camera angles were something considered a lot more also. After doing research and analysing clips it came to my attention of how much of an impact certain shots have at certain points.

5.1.1. Simple things like close ups for meaningful conversations and wide angle shots to show all the action or to set the

5.1.2. I also noticed how the physical distance from the camera effects the emotional distance from the audience. When a character is far back in a shot we can’t read the emotions, the audience then associated them as being withdrawn, as demonstrated in our footage of the Villain

6. I personally feel I have learnt a lot from doing the original task. The first thing I really took into account was the lighting.

6.1. Before hand we used the lighting in the corridors, which are stereotypical of a school setting, but they ruined the picture.

6.1.1. They generated no feeling or atmosphere.

6.2. When doing our actual opening the lighting used were possibly the biggest connotations of good and evil, and help portray the binary opposites of the personalities.

6.2.1. Session Rule 1

6.2.2. Session Rule 2

7. Costume

7.1. In the preliminary task we did take into account costume very slightly, but we did have a make do attitude towards them.

7.1.1. The teacher was dressed in a stereotypical teacher’s suit and tie, but our student was wearing her normal clothes.

7.2. The teacher was dressed in a stereotypical teacher’s suit and tie, but our student was wearing her normal clothes.

7.3. As our plot was quite difficult to understand, we had to highlight in every way the contrast in personalities.

8. Titles

8.1. . Lots of research was done into these to discover the themes associated with our chosen genre and how they are displayed and worked into the openings.

8.2. Timings of who appeared where in the sequences, whether there was any recurring pattern.

8.3. From doing the analysis I discovered the main aspect of the title was bring everyone involved together, by using the connotations of the same font as the main title.

9. Use of the Camer

9.1. In our priliminary we made the mistack of filming in two different asspect ratio.

9.1.1. This lead to some of the clips appearing square and elongated and others rectangular.

9.1.2. This was a big thing we had to get right as somthing like this could easily throw the quality of our film opening

9.2. I used the camera a lot in creating our opening. I became acustume to the settings, and therefore became comfortable in useing it .
