1. Dark Age (1200-800 BCE)

1.1.2. Ionians

1.1.2.5. Were wealthier than the Aeolians.

1.2.1.1. Hydria - Used to pour liquids.

1.2.1.3. Krater - Used to mix liquids (usually water & wine).

1.2.1.4. Amphora - Used to store liquid & dry food.

1.2.1.5. Kylix - A type of cup usually used to drink wine.

1.2.1.6. Oenochoe - Used to pur liquids into the Krater.

1.2.1.7. Scenes were usually near the handles.

1.2.1.8. Whole vase was covered in designs & seperated into sections by 3 horizontal lines.

1.2.2.2. Made of bronze.

1.2.2.3. Had no time to focus on art.

1.2.3.1. None because they were always destroyed so no one made any (that we know of).

1.2.4. Architecture

1.2.4.1. No great architecture because they were always getting destroyed, no money, and not enought time to build.

1.3. Beliefs

1.3.1. Horro Vacui - afraid of leaving empty spaces on pottery becaus of the belief that the evil spirits would exit through the spaces.

1.3.2. Humans were merely puppets of the Gods.

1.3.3. Artists were the border line between the Gods & Humans.

2.1.1.1.1. Figures look more realistic.

2.1.1.1.2. Has much more details.

2.1.1.1.3. Details are painted.

2.1.1.1.4. Did NOT take much artistic talent compared to black figure vases.

2.1.1.1.5. Took less time to make.

2.1.1.1.6. Figures are red & the background is black.

2.1.1.2. Black Figure Vases

2.1.1.2.1. Details were scratched into the vase.

2.1.1.2.2. Didn't have many curves or circles (had mainly straight lines).

2.1.1.2.3. Took much more time & artistic talent.

2.1.1.2.4. Didn't have much details (too many would cause the vase to crack).

2.1.1.2.5. Didn't look as realistic as red figure vases.
