4.1. A species whose numbers have fallen so low that it is at risk of becoming extinct. Once a species has become extinct, it is gone forever.

4.1.1.1.1. Human activities can destroy habitats. Species with no habitat cannot survive.

4.1.1.2.1. Hunting can be so severe that it can destroy an entire species.

4.1.2.1.1. Genetic variation is very important to a population. With genetic variations, the population as a whole has a better chance of surviving if they are threatened by a pathogen, or habitat changes. Even if only some of the individuals may have the variations that allow them to survive and reproduce.

5. Reasons for Conservation Programmes

5.1. We need to keep the Earth safe so that the future generations can enjoy them.

5.2. If we damage the ecosystem, we can be doing harm to ourselves.

5.3. Taking care of the enviroment helps to make our own living conditions more pleasant and safe.

5.4. Losing species from an ecosystem can have a wide reaching effects.

5.5. Many plants species containing chemicals that can be used as drugs. If we lose plant species, we may be losing potential new medicines.

6. Both of this method can run into problems if the sewege contains substances which harm the mocroorganism, such as mercury, disinfectants, or large quantities of detergents. To solve this, the contaminated sewege can be diluted before being allowed to enter the trickling filter bed or the activated sludge.
