1.1. Any method of evaluation performed at the end of a unit that allows a teacher to measure a student's understanding, typically against standardized criteria.

1.2. End of the day question in order to leave class.

2.1. A task based assessment that has the students working on a task rather than answering questions.

2.2. A good example is using a project.

2.3. Another example is having the students use an experiment.

3. Diagnostic

3.1. The instructor evaluating students on what they already know and change the class organization depending on what they know.

4. Formative

4.1. Process of gathering evidence of student learning. Adjusting instruction strategies to enhance achievements.

5. Interim/Benchmark

5.1. Evaluate where students are in their learning progress and determine whether they are on track to performing well on future assessments.

5.2. A midterm test in order to see what the students know.

5.3. A really good example of this is a midterm project on what the students learned.
