Chapter 6: Tests von Mind Map: Chapter 6: Tests

1. Tips for group studying

1.1. The first tip is to form a group that will help you be productive. Even though working with friends is fun, they may not not be the best fit for helping you stay productive and on task!

1.1.1. The next tip is to plan ahead and set goals for what you and your group members want to get accomplished. During this time you can also hold a mock meeting to see how things go.

1.1.1.1. The next tip is to assign roles. There is no point if everyone works on the same task. Be as efficient as possible and make the most of your time.

1.1.1.1.1. Finally work together and make sure that all members are ready to succeed. Take time to teach, test, and work with one another.

2. What to do DURING a test

2.1. A good tip is to always drive early to a test to help ensure that you are organized and have all the needed materials for a test. You can also take this time to ask a teacher any last minute questions you may have.

2.1.1. No matter what kind of test you are taking, always take your time, read all of the questions and possible answers, and look for key words.

3. Why cheating is never worth is

3.1. For starters the risks always outweigh the rewards. Passing a test might be nice, but it is never worth it when you could potentially fail a class, be suspended, or even expelled.

3.1.1. There are many losses involved with cheating as well. Information is never retained, and education is expensive so why risk it.

4. After the test is handed in

4.1. After you hand in a test, take time to decompress. Do something that you enjoy and that will help to take your mind off of the test. At this point the worst is over and there is nothing else you can do.

4.1.1. After the test is returned, always look at feedback and go over what you got wrong. You probably didn't get everything right and that is okay. Use your mistakes as a learning tool for later on and do not be too hard on yourself. Also be on the lookout for grading errors and possible teacher mistakes.

4.1.1.1. Learn from your mistakes and take note of what worked well and what did not for next time.

5. Detaching

5.1. There are three key points when trying to detach.

5.1.1. One is being aware of where you stand. If you are confused and do not understand something it is okay. Admit it, and seek help!

5.1.1.1. Two is taking time to breathe and relax. It is 10x harder to accomplish something when you are stressed and confused. If you take time to breathe and relax, your mind will be clear and you will be focused.

5.1.1.1.1. Three is looking at the bigger picture. If you do not think you are going to score an A+ on a test, it is NOT the end of the world. In the long run that test probably will not matter, so do your best and move forward!

6. What to do BEFORE a test

6.1. Before taking a test, remember and practice three tricks to help you stay focused and prepared. One is looking at each test as a performance, and in order to perform well you need to practice. Two is to retain the Information on the test which is always the goal. Finally, think of getting ready for a test like a pilot and use a checklist.

6.1.1. Find or create practice materials: Finding the information needed to study can save so much time and help you stay organized. You can find all of this information as well as old assessments in advance to save time in the future when it comes time to study. You can also make your own study materials like flash cards to help you study.

6.1.1.1. Scheduling your study times, study materials, and practice exams can be a great way to stay on top of your work and making sure that you fit all the material you need to learn into your study time without cramming.

6.1.1.1.1. Going over notes and other materials well in advance can also help to discover questions that might be used later on a test!

7. How to let go of anxiety

7.1. The first tool to eliminating test anxiety is watching your mind. It is easy for us to begin to over think things and get stressed out. Before this happens, stop yourself and calm down.

7.1.1. In order to eliminate the anxiety there is a few step process which helps us compete this task which seems almost impossible to some. Step one is accepting your thoughts. It is okay to be nervous but this cannot take over our minds. The second step is to dispute these thoughts. This can be done by giving yourself positive thoughts and believing in yourself. The last step is looking at the bigger picture and looking at how much that test actually matters.

7.1.1.1. BREATHE!!!
