Prime Minister- The Prime minister chooses who he wants as head of the departments based on their experteise and knowledge of the different departments. The election for the Prime minister is held at most every 5 years with the country looking out for different candidates election campains to try and decide whos best to run the country. 1. Ministry of Defence- The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is the United Kingdom government department responsible for implementation of government defence policy and is the headquarters of the British Armed Forces. Aswell as planning for the interests of the UK, the MOD also takes care of the day to day running of the Armed Forces. It is now run by Phil Hammond.

1.1. British Armed Forces- The Britsh Armed Forces consists of the Army, Navy and Airforce. The Army has 101,000 soldiers, RAF has 40,000 staff, the Navy has 35,000 staff and there is 85,000 civilian staff all workjing with an overall budget of around £39.46 bn.

1.1.1. Defence vetting agency- The defence vetting agency has a very importasnt job which includes them doing background checks on all applicants to the armed forces making sure that they aren't illegal immigrants or terrorists etc. This ensures that our armed forces is clear of all undesirables which means the the Uk is safer.

2. Communities and local Government- Eric Pickles is the man responsible for looking after counsil housing and local councils. Only a small part covers the Fire Service.

2.1. Bob Neil is responsible for the running of the Fire and Rescue service and makes sure that it is running as well as it should be and that the community is getting proper treatment with smoke alarms etc.

2.1.1. Fire and Rescue Service doesnt just deal with fires as many people think. They deal with all dsorts of problems from car crashes to fires and anything involving hazard to the public. Its a very physical job requiring a good standard of fitness to be able to join. There are 44,000 fire officers in the UK with 3.7% being female. and 3,600 applicants a year.

2.1.1.1. Fire authority UK deals with other things than fire and rescue. They work with local councils and help decide what the oublic need like new smoke alarms etc. They also do days out to the town so the public can see their equipment and talk to the fire fighters directly.
