1. Formative
1.1. A formative assessment is an assessment given in order to modify teaching and activities in order to improve student learning. Feedback is a big part of formative assessments.
1.1.1. An example of a formative assessment would be an exit ticket. Another example would be a short quiz.
2. Benchmark
2.1. A benchmark assessment is an assessment given frequently to establish data and measure progress throughout the school year.
2.1.1. An example of a benchmark assessment would be a monthly istation test. Another example would be a district exam every 6 weeks.
3. Summative
3.1. A summative assessment is the evaluation of student learning at the end of unit or time. It is more formal of an assessment and is usually high stakes.
3.1.1. An example of a summative assessment would be a final exam for a course. Another example would be a end of unit test.
4. Performance
4.1. A performance assessment is an assessment that requires students to physically perform a task rather that a test. This type of assessment can take longer, and may be harder to grade/understand.
4.1.1. An example of a performance assessment could be poetry interpretation. Another example of this could be having students recite a poem or passage.
5. Diagnostic
5.1. A diagnostic assessment is a pre assessment where teachers can see what level students are at. It can show theirs strengths and weaknesses.
5.1.1. An example of a diagnostic test would be the Where to start word test. Another example could be the Beginning of Year Kindergarten assessment.
