2. At the age of eight he began studying at the school in his hometown, where he stood out for his good skills and qualifications. After completing her studies in elementary school, she managed to get a scholarship to study in the United States (1960). In 1964 she obtained her Degree in Biology from Mount St. Scholastic College in Atchinson, Kansas, and later went to Pittsburg, where he obtained his Master's Degree in Biological Sciences (1966).

5. Family information: Her family was Kĩkũyũ, the largest ethnic group in Kenya, and they had resided in the region for several generations. Her father worked on a farm while her mother took care of her other two brothers and her. Mwangi Mathai Wangari Maathai's was his ex-husband and the name of their kids are: Wanjira Mathai, Muta Mathai and Waweru Mathai.
