Google Classroom Vs. Schoology Organizer by Mind Map: Google Classroom Vs. Schoology Organizer

1. Overall organization/structure of the LMS

1.1. Google Classroom allows you to add assignments that can be organized into topics but students might still have to scroll to find certain assignments if you have already posted your full class unit plan.

1.2. Schoology allows teachers to create folders within folders which let's students find lessons or quizzes easier.

2. Ease of use for teachers

2.1. Schoology gives teachers a lot of ways to save material from different assignments that can be inputted into an assignment you're currently creating.

2.2. Google Classroom is very versatile in what content can be used for assignments, since Google has many different platforms that can be applied to your classroom. For example, google slides, docs, sheets, and all of these platforms are free to the student.

3. Posting assignments

3.1. Google Classroom gives the option of posting an assignment at scheduled times, you can edit an assignment at any time.

3.2. Schoology allows teachers to input images, videos, links, and external links that students can click on to access another platform but then return to the assignment.

4. Grading assignments

4.1. Schoology creates a simple way of grading assignments, it let's the teacher organize the way their students can view their scores, how many attempts they have, and shows the correct answer (if the teacher allows it) after they complete their assignment. Rubrics can be attached to assignments as well.

4.2. Google Classroom gives teachers an outline for a rubric in which they can apply to all assignments or certain ones, depending on the teacher. The rubric gives teachers the options of dividing up their point value between different criterion.

5. Students turning in assignments

5.1. Google Classroom allows students to turn in assignments late. It makes it known to a student what assignments are due soon and show teachers a time stamp of when it was submitted.

5.2. Schoology allows late submission but keeps the assignment as missing which forces the teacher to have to manually remove "missing" marks.

6. Communication

6.1. Schoology allows teachers to comment on assignments and attach notes to the physical submission for the student to look at besides just the general comment area. However, parents aren't involved as much on Schoology.

6.2. Google Classroom allows teachers to make general comments to the class on an assignment and allows for private comments that only that student can see. However, parents aren't involved as much on GC.

7. Important Feature

7.1. I love how Schoology is able to let teachers unpublish a folder for their class which takes it away from their students but keeps it on the teacher's home page.

7.2. Google Classroom has this important feature of running "originality reports" on student submissions which saves the teacher time of checking their student's work for plagiarism.
