1. On August 2, 1983, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill creating a legal public holiday in honor of the Rev, Martin Luther King, Jr.
2. At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
3. In 1957 he was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
