1. November 2 - Barack Obama Is elected First African American President.

1.1. January 16 – The film Notorious, based on the life of rapper Notorious B.I.G. is released.

1.2. Feburary 8 - Lil Wayne wins four awards, including Best Rap Album for Tha Carter III.

1.3. March 27 – Rapper T.I. was sentenced to a one year and one day prison sentence.

1.4. April 7 - David Robinson, Micheal Jordan, And John Stockton Inducted into the basketball hall of Fame.

1.5. May 26-President Barack Obama nominates Federal Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the United States Supreme Court.

1.6. June 14-NBA Finals — The Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Orlando Magic 4 games to 1 to win the 2009 NBA Championship. The Lakers' Kobe Bryant is named Finals MVP.

1.7. July 7 - Michal Vick Is released From Prison

1.8. August 14-The Philadelphia Eagles sign former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, recently released from federal prison after serving over two years for his dog fighting activities. The deal is for one year at $1.6 million, with a team option for a second year at $5.2 million. (ESPN)

1.9. September 3 – Michael Jackson burial.

1.10. October 9-Barack Obama Is Awarded Nobel Peace Prize.

1.11. November 30-Serena Williams is fined US$82,500 for her tirade at a lineswoman during the 2009 US Open, and faces a suspension from that tournament if she commits another "major offense" at a Grand Slam event in 2010 or 2011.

1.12. December 1-U.S. golfer Tiger Woods announces that he will not be attending his own charity golf tournament, the Chevron World Challenge, or any other tournaments in 2009
