1. injections into the back
1.1. lumbar facet joints or cervical facet joints
1.2. facet joints are between the vertebrae
1.3. can feel the facet joints beneath the skin if thickened
1.4. present on both sides of the back
2. lumbar facet joint injections
3. cervical facet joint injections
4. usually done with x-ray guidance
4.1. one or more joints at a time
4.2. with steroid sometimes
4.3. with nerve blocking some times
4.4. often a once only technique
4.5. rarely repeated
4.6. sometimes only after previous testing with local anesthetic
