Structures and Forces von Mind Map: Structures and Forces

1. Combination structure

2. a combination structure is something that has a combination of structures.

3. house

4. Playground

5. Sand castle

6. umbrella

7. Dynamic load

7.1. a force that is applied by something other than gravity

7.2. Wind

7.3. Snow

8. The point of object that the mass is the same

9. Solid structure

10. is a structure with a open and dependable base

11. building

12. Frame structure

13. an open structure that gives support to an object

14. Spider webb

15. structures that can keep their shape without a frame to support

16. Shell structure

17. volleyball

18. bike helmet

19. Center of Gravity

20. Types of structures

21. Load

21.1. Live load

21.1.1. a force that is applied by the weight of people or goods

21.1.2. humans

21.1.3. machines

21.2. Dead load

21.2.1. the weight of the object itself being pushed by gravity

21.2.2. Bridge

21.2.3. Building

22. A person balancing a stick

23. CN Tower

23.1. THe CN tower is a combination sructure. It has shell material on the top and frame structure through the outside of the tower

23.2. The CN tower was build for communication, observation and a tourist attraction area for Toronto.

23.3. The form of the CN tower has glass shards in the middle of the tower and the 360 degree restaurant at the top of the tower. The bottom of the tower is hollow but gradually gets broad.

23.4. An external force the CN tower would experince would be direction and magnitude. This is because of some dynamic loads such as wind which would be a push. Depending on how heavy the wind would be it can knock the building down.

23.5. An internal force would be compression when thre is a lot snow on the building.

23.6. The center of gravity would be low because the structure has a wide base so that the tower won't tip.

24. The eiffel tower

24.1. The eiffel tower is a frame structure

24.2. The eiffel tower is built for world expo (show technical advancment) and tourist attraction.

24.3. The eiffel tower's form is a metal frame structure and it has a wide base narrowing it to a point.

24.4. One external force would be direction. It would be a push beacause of wind or other dynamic load. another external force would be magnitude. Since the Eiffel tower and CN tower were build to a certain capacity, that determines how much force it can withstand.

24.5. One internal force would be compression when people are on it. It could also be snow, rain or other things that could be on the eiffel tower.

24.6. The center of gravity is low because of the wide base and the smaller top. The eiffel tower has a bigger base so that the center of gravity would be lower meaning that it would be more stable.

25. Form and function

25.1. Form is what the structure looks like

25.2. Function is the job that the object must perform

26. External Force

26.1. External forces are forces that act on a object from the outside

26.1.1. Point of application

26.1.1.1. Point of application means where the force or act is going

26.1.2. Direction

26.1.2.1. Is a force that is called either a pull or a push

26.1.3. Plane of application

26.1.3.1. Is a force that is applied to an object to make it move from one place to another

26.1.4. Magnitude

26.1.4.1. How heavy, moderate or light the force is applied to the object

27. Internal force

27.1. Internal forces is forces that act within the object.

27.1.1. Tension

27.1.1.1. A force that pulls or strectches

27.1.1.1.1. pulling a rubberband

27.1.2. Torsion

27.1.2.1. A force that twists an object

27.1.2.1.1. twisting a cloth

27.1.3. Compression

27.1.3.1. A force that pushes an object both sides

27.1.3.1.1. compressing a ball

27.1.4. Shear

27.1.4.1. Shear is the act of breaking an object by pushing one part of an object and the other part, opposite direction.

27.1.4.1.1. shear
