Training Trends in the Industry of Club Wrestling
by Dean Hall
1. The Hall School of Wrestling
1.1. The Hall School of Wrestling is a local wrestling club located in Mineral, Virginia for school age children to learn the sport of wrestling. The club team practices at three different levels: beginner, advanced and elite. The club team also competes in tournaments all over the United States. The school is staffed by 15, skilled coaches with a combined 50 years of experience.
2. Four Training Trends in the Industry of Club Wrestling
2.1. Social Media is becoming a much larger technological trend, marketing tool, and training tool for wrestling clubs across the United States. Coaches and staff are able to use videos and feedback to consistently improve programs, and add updated training for viewing at their leisure.
2.2. Action Learning is another training trend wrestling clubs are seeing become more prevalent. With Action Learning, coaches are given an actual problem. For example, the youth wrestlers are not developing their double-leg takedowns as efficiently as possible. Action Learning allows coaches to work on solving this problem by committing to an action plan, and then hold themselves accountable for carrying out that plan.
2.3. Collaborative Instruction is another trend being seen in wrestling clubs. While most instruction has been directly from a single instructor, utilizing several coaches allows for differentiated instruction, and allows for more consistency in coaching techniques and implementation of practice.
2.4. A fast emerging trend in wrestling clubs across the United States is the implementation of nutrition and psychological training. Diversity is important to any training. Being able to properly train for all aspects of a situation is most beneficial to all involved parties. This training allows coaches and athletes to see what effects nutrition and mental preparedness have on teaching/learning it.
3. Three Goals that will help the Hall School of Wrestling Proactively Address Trends
3.1. The Hall School of Wrestling will implement a weekly staff meeting to discuss progress, and use of social media tools to assist program learning. This will lead to 100% of staff learning effective techniques for implementation of social media.
3.2. A major goal for the Hall School of Wrestling is to achieve maximum success through collaborative coaching. Staff will compose weekly training plans to collaborate with colleagues.
3.3. The Hall School of Wrestling strives to grow its client population to 250 student-athletes. Currently, the club has 175 participants. We will use effective marketing to grow our numbers to 250 by January of 2017.
4. Three Objectives to Prepare the Hall School of Wrestling to Proactively Address Trends
